The FIS Cross Country Committee has proposed some rule changes to the FIS Council.  Several Changes are proposed to the sprint relay which would see an individual time trial with the combined times of the team members used for qualification in place of a semi final.

Also,

“During the Finals, each athlete of the team will alternatively ski 6 laps each in the following order Women / Man. The last 2 teams will be eliminated after lap 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. Overlapping rules will apply. No physical contact between the competitors is required for the exchange.”

They also propose making some changes to the obstruction and overtaking rules.  Currently the rule is:

“The responsibility for a correct passing without obstruction is on the overtaking skier. The overtaking skier must have his/her skis in front of the skis of the overtaken skier before skiing his/her best line.”

However the proposal states “When competitors ski side by side, the responsibilities become shared” which should allow for some more interesting racing.
